PROGRAM
Statement
of Purpose
In recognition of the recreational and
economic value of the Sebago Lake Watershed to our community, it is the aim of
the Sebago Lake Anglers Association to honor and nurture this natural resource
by fostering higher education in a field of study that will promote the
conservation of our ecosystem. To
this end, the Sebago Lake Anglers Association offers a merit based scholarship
for the pursuit of college level education in marine/environmental sciences or
other related fields of study at an accredited institution of higher learning
within the State of

The scholarship will be awarded on an
annual basis to a qualified graduating senior of one of the area high schools
surrounding
Qualifications
for Consideration
To qualify as a candidate for the Sebago
Lake Anglers Scholarship, a graduating senior must provide documentation of
having been accepted in an academically accredited baccalaureate degree program
in the study of marine/environmental sciences or other related fields of study
at an accredited institution of higher learning within the State of

Awarding
the Scholarship
The Scholarship Committee, consisting of
members of the Sebago Lake Anglers Association, will review the applications of
the candidates including the applicant’s essay, grades, letters of
recommendation and other supporting documents.
Applications and supporting documents must be received by May 10th.
The recipient’s name may be announced at the commencement or awards
presentation of his or her high school.
The scholarship fund will be administered
by the Scholarship Committee. The
dollar amount of the scholarship will be determined annually by the Committee.
The scholarship recipient will receive the
scholarship money only after the SLAA Scholarship Committee has received:
1) an official (sealed) transcript for the student’s first college semester
indicating an overall GPA of 2.4 or above and 2) a copy of the tuition bill for
the student’s second semester. If
this documentation is not received by March 1 of the second semester, the
recipient will forfeit the scholarship payment.

REMOVED BEAVER DAMS FROM NORTH WEST R.

REMOVED DEBRIS FROM BATCHELDER BROOK IN SEBAGO.
WE
TWICE ENCOURAGED MAINE BRIDGE MAINTENANCE TO REMOVE DEBRIS FROM RT.302 BRIDGE
ON THE CROOKED R.
WE
ASSISTED EVERY YEAR IN THE FIN CLIPPING OF FISH AT VARIOUS HATCHERIES.
WE
ASSISTED IN THE STOCKING OF FISH IN PONDS AND RIVERS IN FISHERIES DIVISION
‘A’.
WE
ASSISTED FISHERIES PERSONNEL IN THE FALL STRIPPING OF EGGS AT THE DIF&W
FACILITY ON PANTHER RUN.
IN
2002 WE INITIATED A STUDY OF PLANKTON LIFE IN SEBAGO LAKE.
THIS STUDY HAS SINCE TAKEN OVER BY PORTLAND WATER DISTRICT.
IN
THE SPRING 2002 WE STARTED THE SMELT EGG RESTORATION PROGRAM FOR SEBAGO LAKE.
THIS CALLED FOR THE COLLECTION OF SEA RUN SMELT, TRANSPORTING THEM TO
HOLDING TANKS TO SPAWN AND THE RESULTING SPAWN TAKEN TO SEBAGO LAKE.
WE
COLLECTED FRESH WATER SMELT EGGS FOR INTRODUCTION INTO SEBAGO.
AT
THE REQUEST OF BIOLOGISTS WE POSTED SIGNS IN THE SEBAGO LAKE WATERSHED REGARDING
ILLEGAL INTRODUCTION OF PIKE.
AT
THE REQUEST OF BIOLOGISTS WE POSTED SIGNS IN THE SEBAGO LAKE WATERSHED URGING
CATCH AND RELEASE
WE
ATTEND NUMEROUS MEETING REGARDING WATER LEVEL ISSUES ON SEBAGO.
WE
PROMOTE FISHING IN SEBAGO REGION THROUGH MONTHLY MEETINGS, GUEST SPEAKERS, A
BOOTH AT THE FRYBERG FAIR AND OTHER ACTIVITIES.
WE
SPONSOR AND MAINTAIN AN ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP TO LOCAL SENIORS PURSUING A CAREER
IN THE FIELD OF CONSERVATION, BIOLOGY AND WATER MANAGEMENT.
WE
HAVE ATTEND LEA (lake environment assn.) /CROOKED R. INITIATIVE MEETINGS.
WE
HAVE DONATED SAMPLES OF OUR CATCHES FOR DIF BIOLOGISTS STUDIES.
