SEBAGO LAKE ANGLERS ASSOCIATION

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Statement of Purpose

In recognition of the recreational and economic value of the Sebago Lake Watershed to our community, it is the aim of the Sebago Lake Anglers Association to honor and nurture this natural resource by fostering higher education in a field of study that will promote the conservation of our ecosystem.  To this end, the Sebago Lake Anglers Association offers a merit based scholarship for the pursuit of college level education in marine/environmental sciences or other related fields of study at an accredited institution of higher learning within the State of Maine .

The Sebago Lake Anglers Scholarship

The scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to a qualified graduating senior of one of the area high schools surrounding Sebago Lake .  These schools, all in school districts bordering Sebago Lake, will include Bonny Eagle High School (S.A.D. #6: Buxton, Limington, Standish, Steep Falls, Sebago Lake), Lake Region High School (S.A.D. #61: Bridgton, Casco, Naples, Sebago), and Windham High School.  Until such time that the Town of Raymond possesses a high school, it will participate in the program only to the extent that its resident candidate attends and graduates from S.A.D. #6, S.A.D. #61 or Windham High School .

Qualifications for Consideration

To qualify as a candidate for the Sebago Lake Anglers Scholarship, a graduating senior must provide documentation of having been accepted in an academically accredited baccalaureate degree program in the study of marine/environmental sciences or other related fields of study at an accredited institution of higher learning within the State of Maine .

Awarding the Scholarship

 The Scholarship Payment

The scholarship fund will be administered by the Scholarship Committee.  The dollar amount of the scholarship will be determined annually by the Committee.

The scholarship recipient will receive the scholarship money only after the SLAA Scholarship Committee has received: 1) an official (sealed) transcript for the student’s first college semester indicating an overall GPA of 2.4 or above and 2) a copy of the tuition bill for the student’s second semester.  If this documentation is not received by March 1 of the second semester, the recipient will forfeit the scholarship payment.
